Humphrey Bogart

(1949 in "Knock On Any Door")
This important socially critical film work of art was the first film made by the production company "Santana", which was founded by Humphey Bogart. The film shows the great actor in a previously unknown speaking role which was undoubtedly only possible because he owned the production company (Warner never gave him such roles). He plays a lawyer who very vehemently denounces bourgeois society while defending a young man in a criminal case. He also targets child poverty because he explains how young people are driven by society into those criminal circumstances that also arise from the lack of opportunities of poverty. Quote from the film: "Society is you and you and you and all of us! We, society, are hard and selfish and stupid. We're scandalized by environment and we call it crime. We did all those crime and get away with this crime and the responsibility for it. And we lack the will to do anything about it."

Call To Action

If you want to have children today, you need a secure, well-paid job and a partner you can rely on, at least until the children come of age. For everyone else, if not part of a wealthy family, falling into poverty is inevitable, because selfishness reigns.
